- 1637 - Foundation of the Samarovsky Yam. (horse-drivers with their families were dispatched to settle there by the Tsar Mikhail decree)
- 1675 - The first traveler, an Envoy from Moscow Nicolai Gavrilovich Spafariy Milesku, visited Samarovo on his way to China
- The end of the XVII century - A well-known traveler, Ebergard Isbrant Ides, visited Samarovo, the settlements of horse-drivers
- 1708 - Samarovo joined the Siberian Province
- Summer of 1712 - The Siberian Metropolitan Filofey Leschinskiy visited Samarovo to Christianize the Ob Ostyaky

- 1748 - According to the census data, 487 horse-drivers lived in Samarovo. In administrative and postal terms, Samarovo was referred as USamarovskiy Yam, a Sloboda of the Siberian District of the Tobolsk Province on the Eastern bank of the Irtysh in the Tobolsk Discrete.

- The end of the 80s of the XIX century - A.A. Dzerzshinskiy and A.A. Pavlinov began to accomplish the village. The streets were marked, the buildings that were found to be on the traffic ways were destroyed, streets were paved
- July 9, 1891 - A well-known French ethnographer Sharl Rabo mentioned Samarovo in his works

- 1923 - The establishment of the Tobolsk Okrug subject to the Ural Oblast. Samarovo became a subject of the Okrug
- 1925 - The construction of the first radio station and small electric power station on the Samarovskaya Mountain
- 1930 - The construction of a fish canning factory and the beginning of canned fish production. The appearance of fishing fleet and new fishing instruments and gear
- The beginning of the 30s - A timber mill, primary school, hospital, post office and radiotelegraph appeared
- December 1930 - January 1931 - The Presidium of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee issued the Decree on the establishment of the Ostyako-Vogulsky National Okrug. Y.M. Roznin was appointed chairman of the Organizational Bureau. At a distance of 5 kilometers from Samarovo the foundation of the first buildings of the okrug administrative center was being laid
- Summer, 1931 - The first printing-house was opened

- 1934 - The first electric power station was put into operation. The electric lighting on in the streets and in the sound-cinema appeared. The T.B. prophylactic centre, X-ray room and 2 dental cabinets were opened. A brick-making plant started to function
- 1935 - The square (later the Victory Park) was laid out. Ostyako-Vogulsk was ranked as an urban settlement. The Rural Council was transformed into the Village Council
- 1936 - Opening of the Museum of local lore, history and economy
- 1937 - A new building of the electric power station appeared at the crossroads of the Komsomolskaya and Dzerzshinskogo Streets. Presently, it is a building of the Municipal Unitary Enterprise "City Power Circuit"
- 1938 - The population of Ostyako-Vogulsk totaled 7.5 thousand people
- 1940 - ÎOstyako-Vogulsk was renamed into Khanty-Mansiysk, but the status of the city was given to it only in 1950. In sixties of the XX century Khanty-Mansiysk began to develop as a base station for explorers. A geophysical investigation station and the Association "Khanty-Mansiyskneftegasgeologia" were situated in it. A Hydropathic hospital was put into operation.
- 40s - 50s - An "academic town" with log houses in it was built. It became a support center for polar farming and cattle breeding
- July 1, 1951 - The Khanty-Mansiysk geophysical expedition proceeded to on-regular-basis exploration
- 1967 - The Television Center was opened. A new airport construction work began.
- June 4, 1972 - The provision on the conferring of the title of "Honored Citizen of Khanty-Mansiysk" was issued
- 70s of the ÕÕ century - The construction of the concrete runway of the airport
- 1977 - The Palace of Culture "Oktyabr" holding 600 seats, the first 5-storey building made of precast concrete, buildings of the State Bank, Shopping Centre were completed
- December 29, 1979 - The Geological Production Association for carrying out gas and oil exploration works was established
- 1990 - The Yugra-Yamal Writers Association was created. In 1977, it was renamed into the Khanty-Mansiysk Writers Association.
- 1991 - The President of the RF B.N. Yeltzin visited Khanty-Mansiysk
- 1992 - The Khanty-Mansiysk Okrug became a subject of the Russian Federation and gained the right to form its budget independently
- 1993 - The Forth International Folk Festival of Finno-Ugric peoples took place in Khanty-Mansiysk
- March 28, 1995 - The Okrug Duma passed the law on the status of Khanty-Mansiysk as a capital of a subject of the RF
- 1996 - The construction of a highway of federal importance was completed. An annual ecological festival named "To save and to preserve" was launched out
- 1997 - Open championship on Biathlon "Cup Yugra - 97" of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug commenced and became recurrent
- 1993 - 2002 - The years of active construction of the city. Original apartment houses, office buildings, banks, cinemas, a Center of Arts for Gifted Children, Skiing Center, Museum of Gas and Oil, Business-Trade Center and other buildings appeared in the city. The city transformed into a modern capital of business, science, tourism, sport and culture - the capital of the Okrug Yugra

- September, 6 2004 - Putting into operation a complex of kindergarten buildings (three buildings with floor space of 7900 m2) for 420 children on the Ostrovskogo street. All buildings were joined by underground passages. There were formed 21 groups of children aged from 3 to 6.5 years old
- September 11, 2004 - A celebrating ceremony devoted to the extraction of the 8th billiard ton of oil in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Yugra. Putting into operation a bridge over the Irtysh River, 1.4 km in length, which made it possible to organize a through communication rout of 1.500 km connecting the western part of the Okrug with Nyagan, Ivdel, the Sverdlovskaya oblast and Perm
- October 22, 2004 - A new Wedding Palace (civilian registry office), having individual rooms for a fianc? and fianc?e, a room for children, a buffet room, two halls for conducting wedding registration ceremonies, a subdivision for issuing Marriage and Divorce Certificates, Birth Certificates and other acts of civil status, was put into operation. The first six marriages were registered in it
- March, 2005 - World Cup Final and IBU Mixed Relay World Championship took place in Khanty-Mansiysk
- August, 2005 - A social establishment building "Specialized House for the Aged People "Veteran" was put into operation. It is a 4-storeyed building consisting of 26 apartments (two 2-room apartments and the rest - one-room apartments), equipped with a passenger lift. The first floor is occupied by a doctor's consulting room, procedure unit, rest rooms and a training
- September 1, 2005 - Putting into operation school #1, named after Y. Sozonov. The erection of The Monument to Teachers and Pupils, who perished during the Great Patriotic War in front of school
- December, 2005 - The presentation of the book "From Prince Samar period" took place. In the authors' opinion, the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug traces its roots from more ancient times that it has been considered before
- January, 2006 - The completion of the first stage of construction of secondary school #6
- March, 2006 - A symbol stone was placed at the construction site of sport facilities of the Tennis Academy of Yugra. Several tennis-courts with modern surface covering and audience stands for 3,4 thousand spectators were in the construction project. The construction works were planned to be completed in a year. The Governor of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug Alexander Filipenko, the President of the Russian Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpischev, and the Leader of the Regional Unit of Russian Tennis Academy Andrey Yuzhniy took part in the ceremony
- March, 2006 - The elections of deputies of the Duma of the 4th convocation took place in Khanty-Mansiysk. During the first sitting of the Duma of the 4th convocation Vasiliy Filipenko was voted chairman of the Duma. Tatyana Volgunova was elected vice-chairman of the Duma. Four Committees were formed in the Duma: 1- the Budget Committee headed by Ulyana Solodovnikova; 2 - the Committee on Education, Culture and Healthcare headed by Lyubov Korneeva; 3 - the Committee on Social Policy and Municipal Services headed by Andrey Bukarinov, 4 - the Local Self-Government Committee headed by Lyudmila Glebova
- June, 2006 - A campaign aimed to raise funds to build the Memorial to the victims of Stalin's political repressions commenced. The Memorial appeared at the crossroads of the Sverdlova and Pionerskaya Streets in front of school #5 on October 1
- July, 2006 - The 1 summer sports and athletics youth competition was conducted in Khanty-Mansiysk. Sportsmen from 73 regions of 9 federal districts of Russia took part in the competition. Over 2570 young men and women (207 teams) competed in 24 kinds of sports. The total number of people including sportsmen, coaches, supervisory and service personnel, field judges was 4252 persons
- August, 2006 - The 7-th regular conference of the International Biathlon Association was conducted. Representatives from National Federations from 52 countries of the world discussed the problems of the future development of Biathlon, elected new members of the Board of the International Biathlon Association, and decided the places for conducting next International Championships and World Cup stages
- October 1, 2006 - The Ceremony of opening of the Memorial to the victims of Stalins's political repressions took place. The Memorial was built on charitable donations. A 4-meter's concrete stele, coated with granite, with a crack in the center, symbolizes a division of the society into "insiders" and "outsiders", that is "reliable Soviet citizens" and "Public enemies". Stele is supplemented by the imitation of a log-house made of bronze with the address plate on it. It symbolizes the Commandant's office, where the exiled people had to be registered. A female-shaped bronze figure mourning for the perished is standing near the Stele. The territory of park around the Stele is divided into several zones. It has been decided to leave the ground behind the Monument without grass, so that every member of political convicts' families could take a handful of ground with him. It is possible to lay the flowers on the pedestal of the Monument, which symbolizes the grave
- October 15, 2006 - In the second round of elections Valeriy M. Sudeykin was elected Governor of Khanty-Mansiysk
